The Ministry of Defence, Govt. India granted Prof. A. M. Paturkar, Vice Chancellor of MAFSU the honorary Rank of Colonel in the National Cadet Corps and appointed him as Colonel Commandant of NCC, MAFSU.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry on 5th January 2019. The Honorary Rank of Colonel was conferred on the Prof. Paturkar on 30th April 2019 by Major General Gajendra Prasad, Yudh Seva Medal, Vishist Seva Medal, Additional Director General, Maharashtra Directorate in a modest ceremony at Rajat Jayanti Sabhagruha, Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur.
On this occasion Group Captain M. Kalim, Group Commander NCC, Nagpur Group, Dr. N. N. Zade, Director of Instructions and Dean (Vet), Lieutenant Colonel Satveer Singh, Commanding Officer, 1 Maharashtra R & V Squadron, NCC, Chandrabhan Parate, Registrar, MAFSU were prominently present. Group Captain M. Kalim introduced Major General Gajendra Prasad, and Dr. N. N. Zade introduced Prof. A. M. Paturkar to the gathering.
In his speech Major General Gajendra Prasad highlighted the role played by NCC in inculcating sense of discipline, unity, character building and courage in young minds of India. He congratulated Prof. Paturkar on this occasion and thanked for his support to the 1 Maharashtra Sqn. Of NCC unit at Nagpur Veterinary College, Nagpur. Prof. Patukar in his thanks giving speech thanked Major General Gajendra Prasad and NCC for bestowing the rank of Colonel Commandant of NCC, MAFSU. He assured to provide all the essential facilities and support to the affiliated NCC unit particularly in the improvement of equestrian training facilities.
 Registrar MAFSU, Chandrabhan Parate, extended the vote of thanks, Captain, Dr. N. C. Nandeshwar, and Dr. Sheetal Chopde, ANO, worked hard for the success of the programme. The Officers of Defence Forces, Deans, Directors, other officials of University, teaching and Non Teaching staff of Nagpur Veterinary College, NCC cadets and students were present in large number.
