Odisha’s IM Anwesh Upadhyaya emerged champion in FIDE Rating Chess Tournament organised by Kalpana Prakash Foundation at Dr Ambedkar Management Institute on Friday. Upadyyaya and Kherdekar earned 8.5 points each. However on the basis of tie-breaker, Upadhyaya was declared winner and Kherdekar followed him for second place.
IM Praveen Kumar achieved third place whereas IM Rajesh VAV finished fourth. Maharashtra’s Bhagyashree Patil secured sixth place. City’s IM Anup Deshmukh had to be satisfied with sixth place. In the final round, both Anwesh Upadhyay and Navalgund Niranjan settled to a draw. Kherdekar recorded the victory over IM Praveen Kumar. IM Rajesh outclassed Rajanikant Buxy on third board. Anup Deshmukh overcame the challenge for Mangal Prasad.
NDCA President Dilip Kamdar was the chief guest of the prize distribution function. Director of Global Institute Aditya Bhandari, organising Secretary Bhushan Shriwas chief arbiter Swapnil Bansod and Suresh Chavan were also present on the occasion. Team of arbiters FA Deepak Chavan, FA Umesh Panbude, SNA Swati Kumbhalkar, SNA Shubham Soni, SNA Vishal Kumar Minz, Amit Tembhurne, Amit Bhongare,  Krishna Bhandarkar and Prayas Ambade worked hard to make the event a grand success.
Rapid tournament will be played on Saturday after the inauguration at 9.30 a.m. The Blitz tournament will be played on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

IM Deshmukh Anup (8, 63.5), 7. FM Navalgund Niranjan (8, 62), 8. Khamele Ojas (8, 56.5), 9. Wairagade Khush (7.5, 62.5), 10. Mahindrakar Indrajeet (7.5), 60.5).
