Maha Metro Nagpur’s proposed project, which would give a new look to city redevelopment of the road opposite Nagpur Railway Station and adding to the existing road network – is all set to start with proposed rehabilitation of shop-keepers operating beneath bridge set to begin soon. The rehabilitation process would be over about a week after Diwali.
The process of handing over of land required for rehabilitation of the shop-keepers is being executed. The stretch of land presently occupied by State Transport Corporation would be used for the rehabilitation of shop keepers.
Tipped as one of the most important projects of Nagpur, once completed, it will address the traffic woes and put an end to the congestion on the existing road. At present, the entire stretch of road from Manas Square to Jai Stambh Square is a manifestation of traffic congestion with pedestrians, two and four-wheeler vehicles and cycle-rickshaws thronging on the narrow piece of road, which stretches for about a km.
Railway Station, Bus Stand, Temple, Banks, Commercial Establishments, Vegetable Market, Talkies, Academic Institutions surround road from all sides. All these establishments collectively contribute to the vehicular congestion in the area there. The traffic jam resulting in the process has been one of the most troublesome aspects of the city.
Some of the prominent features of the project are – Construction of 6-lane road from Manas Square to Jai Stambh Square, Construction of Fly-over from Kings Way Hospital to Ram Jhula, Construction of Under-Pass from Manas Square to Cotton Market Square, Parking Plaza to come up at the land presently housing bus depot and Rehabilitation & Resettlement of 164 shop-keepers.
The 6-lane road to be constructed between Manas and Jai Stambh Square would cater to the traffic operating between two traffic junctions. Other than the 6-lane road, the proposed project also involves the construction of Fly Over from Kings Way Hospital to Ram Jhula. This will help commuters from RBI or LIC Square to travel to Central Avenue with ease. Another major part of the project is the construction of Under-Pass from Manas to Cotton Market Square.
This Under-pass will connect west to east Nagpur and reduce traffic congestion on road beneath Iron Bridge (Loha Pul). A huge Parking Plaza is all set to come up as part of the project at the piece of land presently occupied by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). One of the key features of the project is the proposed Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) of shop keepers who have been operating under the existing bridge in front of the railway station for more than 10 years now. The shop-keepers are to be rehabilitated in the proposed building to come up in the vicinity.
The project will not just reduce traffic congestion on one of the busiest roads of the city, but would also give a facelift to the railway station and other nearby areas. The project will prove to be a landmark for the city and its citizens.
