When the citizens and common people start coming out of their comfort zones on a sleepy Sunday morning to lie down on roads then certainly, they are a concerned lot.
On 13th October 2019 Sunday morning around 200 citizens including young ones and old gathered in Bharat Nagar in front of Bharat Van to conduct a first of its kind lie down strike for climate change and nature in Nagpur.
Every single person present was not affiliated to any single political party or NGO but they were all vowing their allegiance to the conservation of nature, the green urban jungles, the water bodies and the air of the area.
They lay down for over 30 minutes in silent protest with placards in hand warning the future planners and want to be legislatures that if the environment is not on their agendas then they better not take up the job of representing the people.
It was a stern message to all political parties and individuals before the elections. Many said that they would not let Aarey like situations happen in Nagpur at any cost because the city is already facing the depletion of Green Cover to the tune of nearly 33% as given by reports from various agencies.
Water bodies are also getting highly polluted and air conditioning is already beyond anything but fresh. Assembled people also pledged their own responsibilities towards nature and conservation.
They have mentioned many ideas that would be submitted to the authorities and a few projects are going to be implemented soon. Youngsters from Fridays for Future also participated in spreading awareness.
Citizens have advice for the legislatures. Don’t mess with nature. Together they will fight for the conservation of trees, air, and water.
