The great monument based inside the city, which was built in the British era, the Zero Mile is being neglected by the civic authorities and NMC. The beautification and the maintenance of this sculpture is being totally ignored. In regard to this, the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has taken the responsibility in its hand and has taken a suo motu cognizance of the issue and directed its registry to treat it as public interest litigation (PIL No 59/2019)
Justice Ravi Deshpande and Vinay Joshi on had issued notices to respondents, including the Maharashtra government, asking them to reply before November 13. They included state urban development department (UDD), municipal commissioner, NMC’s heritage conservation committee chairman, Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) chairman and Maha Metro.
Senior Counsel of Maha Metro Surendra Kumar Mishra along with Kaustubh Deogade informed that they had applied for changing the area which was reserved for parking into a heritage walk site and even had submitted a proposal to the heritage committee last year in May, but we are yet to get any reply from the authorities. Maha Metro was given responsibility for the beautification by the heritage committee.
