Recently the city has witnessed many cases of encroachment on footpaths. And after many incidents   have reported Commissioner of Police Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay has taken action regarding in this matter. For this purpose, city police has started taking aggressive steps to remove the encroachment on footpaths. Police in coordination with Nagpur Municipal Commissioner has removed the encroachments at 20 various areas in Nagpur. Dr Upadhyay has stated that they have come up with solution, he asked his police personnel to select two areas of one zone. There are ten zones in Nagpur, so they can cover 20 areas in one go. Apart from this, they will focus on these 20 areas for two months with care would be taken that the encroachers would not return on the footpath. After two months of continuous watch, pedestrians would become habitual of using footpaths; encroachers too would understand that they would not have any alternative than to go somewhere else.
After two months we will go for other areas. This exercise would continue till we remove the encroachment completely. There are two parts of footpath issue– one is related to encroachment removal and another is damaged footpaths. Nagpur Municipal Corporation would be partnering with police on encroachment removal and it would be taken up civil work also regarding the repairing. As per information, Mayor to hold special meet over encroachment on footpaths. The Mayor has stated that the municipal officers should take the issue of encroachment on footpath seriously and initiate action, so that the walkers are not put to inconvenience. Â He also made an appeal to the corporators to co-operate in ensuring encroachment-free footpaths. The civic administration of the city is taking the work on war footing. On this issue, the civic chief had conducted a meeting where he discussed the issue with Superintendent Engineer and others about the repairing the footpaths. And he has given an ultimatum for completing the repairing work.
