Over the past decade and half the rate of LOSS of GREEN COVER of Nagpur City is more than it can recover.
Similarly the green areas have decreased by a whopping 33% of what it used to be around 10 years ago. That means one third of what was GREEN is now CONCRETE. At this rate the capacity of the City Environment to CLEAN its AIR and maintain a healthy Population will decrease very fast. Various Infrastructural Projects lined up for the next few years for City is going to Lead in MASSIVE TREE FELLING to the Tune of Nearly 1 LAKH which many beleive is a conservative figure.
The INTER MODEL STATION project at AJNI is going to require over 7000 AGE OLD TREES to be felled in the first phase which is on 44 acres.
Subsequently another over 30,000 TREES would be felled in the next 2 phases spread over the 450+ acres, NAGPUR cannot afford this ENVIRONMENTAL SHOCK at this moment as it an IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE.People of Nagpur are standing up to speak against this Unsustainable Development.
They want Alternatives to be explored and the IMS to be moved to KHAPRI or other areas where less no of trees would be required to cut.
26th January is celebrated as the Republic day of our great Country India. It is on this day that the Constitution of India was brought into force which governs the Largest Democracy in the World in Terms of Population.Article 51-A( g) of the Indian Constitution which is the Pillar of our Great Democracy deals with Fundamental Duties of the Citizen, states “It shall be the Duty of EVERY CITIZEN of INDIA to PROTECT and IMPROVE the NATURAL ENVIRONMENT including FORESTS,LAKES, RIVERS and WILDLIFE,to have Compassion for the Living Creatures.
Echoing this sentiment, the citizens of Nagpur are participating in a bicycle rally to stand up for the mute trees which give us life and request the authorities to shift the IMS project to alternate area.
