In yet another freeking metro incident a portion of the newly constructed Metro’s double-decker bridge Y junction leading to Manish Nagar on Wardha Road suddenly fell on the road.
Fortunately no pedestrian or vehicle driver was going through this route, therfore no casualty was reported. The incident occured just a year after the inauguration of the bridge.
It is worth mentioning here, that this is not the first metro incident, earlier a man handler machine had collapsed on Agrasen Square. Thankfully there was no casualty in this accident. Also, a person died after being hit by a crane during Metro work in the direction of Orange Market of Nagpur station.
In the current accident It is being said that there is an expansion gap at the Y junction of the bridge. To temporarily support this gap, a mixture of thermocol and concrete is filled in the gap. There are other such gaps on this bridge, where this mixture has been installed on a temporary basis. These mixtures have turned into concrete structures. Many of these structures have been removed after the stipulated time. But still some structures remain on the bridge.
MahaMetro administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident of the collapse of a concrete thermocol structure built in the expansion gap of Y junction of double-decker bridge on the road. Even if any one is found guilty after investigation, action will be taken against him. Penalty will also be imposed on the contracting company. The concrete thermocol structure on the bridge was installed on a temporary basis. It needed to be removed, said Akhilesh Halve, PRO, MahaMetro
