Mumbai’s Marine Drive Police has issued third non-bailable warrant against ‘absconding’ former Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. This is the third warrant against him in extortion cases registered against him.
Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Police Inspectors Nandkumar Gopale and Asha Korke in connection with the same cases. The two have been remanded to CID custody by the court. The two were arrested following complaint lodged by real estate developer Shyamsundar Agrawal on July 22 alleging extortion.
Param Bir Singh and seven others including five police officers have been named in the FIR. The police officers include DCP (Crime) Akbar Pathan, ACP Shrikant Shinde and ACP Sanjay Patil. The CID is also investigating a case registered against Agrawal under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) and his connection with gangster Chhota Shakeel.
Agrawal has alleged that he has been inducted in the false case for extortion by Singh.
