Dayashankar Tiwari, the Mayor, submitted a memorandum to Anurag Thakur, Union Sports Minister, after a meeting held at Delhi recently urging him to allot funds for development of grounds to provide facilities to the players.
He urged the minister for the necessary funds through district level ‘Khelo India’ scheme and demanded to start a Khelo India Centre in the city under Indian Sports Authority. Tiwari also submitted copies of the memorandum to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Surface Transport, and Devendra Fadnavis, Opposition Leader.
The Mayor pointed out that there were many budding players in Kabaddi, Basket Ball, Boxing, Athletics, Swimming, Volley Ball, Soft Ball, Fencing, Shooting, Archery, Weight Lifting, Paralympic, Table Tennis etc. Therefore, they should get modern sports materials, training and proper guidance and hence the minister should cooperate in this regard.
Thakur gave a positive response to the demands made by Tiwari.
