Members of Satpuda Foundation celebrated World Wetland day by organising an awareness session for school children from Ghatpendhri village in the buffer area of Pench Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra part on Wednesday.
The Conservation Officer of the foundation Bandu Uikey along with teachers of Zilla Parishad Primary School of the village took students on a nature trail along a stream leading to the pond. He assisted students to spot and identify various birds, wildlife trails and flora of the region. The students were overwhelmed to watch the birds of different species such as pond heron, white throated king fisher, pied kingfisher, owlets, b lack drongo, paradise flycatcher and others.
Uikey explained that water is an important source both fore wildlife and human beings and stressed to protect forests called mother of water sources.
Principal of the school Dhurve along with Round Officer Gurbele, Forest Guard Munde and others assisted for the event in which around 30 students took part.
