Following a breakdown in a Mahatransco substation, half of Nagpur, as well as districts between the city and Ramtek and Bhandara, went dark on Tuesday night. This area’s load was around 160 MW. Mahatransco employees fixed the problem in just an hour, providing respite to the customers.
According to Mahatransco’s acting chief engineer, Satish Ane, a conductor at the Khaparkheda substation tripped due to heavy power load and demand around 11 p.m.
Also the 220 KV Khaparkheda-Kanhan line tripped about 11.30 p.m. as a result of this, the Besa and Pardi substations fell offline, bringing darkness to parts of south, central, and east Nagpur, including Besa, Nagar, Chhatrapati Nagar, and Lashkaribagh.
Following the blackout, Priya Modak, an executive engineer, and her team began thermal scanning. At roughly 12 a.m, the conductor was replaced, and the power supply was restored.
One by one, the feeders were restored. Bhandara regained power about 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
It is to be noted that due to the scorching heat the usage of Air conditioner, coolers has increased leading to high demand for electricity.
