AIIMS Nagpur has started Blood Center services under the department of Transfusion Medicine. The center provides state of art facility with 100% blood components facility to meet the blood needs of the patients admitted to AIIMS Nagpur Hospital.
On 25th July, 2022, the apheresis facility was added to the domain as well. The Blood Center is licensed to provided Single Donor Platelet and Single Donor Plasma for the patients. Hon’ble Director & CEO Maj Gen Dr. Vibha Dutta, SM, AIIMS Nagpur said Human blood is an indispensable entity of human life with no substitute. It is only manufactured in the factory called “Human Bodyâ€.
Everyone is requested to come forward for voluntary blood donation by which we can serve our patients better. With the apheresis services being started, we will be able to support the dengue and cancer patients who are in constant need of platelets. Dr. Soumya Das, Assistant Professor and Faculty In-Charge, Department of Transfusion Medicine, AIIMS Nagpur said our vision is to provide safe, appropriate and good quality blood and blood components round the clock to all patients as per the Quality Standards and latest development in the field of Transfusion Medicine, ensuring the availability of blood products to any patient in our hospital and in our state during emergency and disaster of Central India.
The Department of Transfusion Medicine being comprehensive in its scope, the division also have a well-established high-volume clinical blood bank laboratory and an immunohematology reference laboratory and therapeutic apheresis services as well including red cell exchange for sickle cell patients, plasmapheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy, etc.
The center will be soon starting NAT testing facility, peripheral blood stem cell processing laboratory and irradiation of blood and blood components in near future.
