While the Nagpur police are taking pride in the fact that major crimes have decreased, the truth may be quite different. Because they are no longer afraid, criminal elements are now beating, threatening, and robbing citizens in broad daylight. An MBA student was beaten by two unidentified people who also robbed him in one such incident, which occurred on Friday afternoon in the busy Sitabuldi area. A senior Lokmat Times journalist who attempted to confront anti-social elements witnessed the incident. The attackers, however, threatened the journalist and then ran away.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim, who is from Umred, had just left a store after purchasing some medication when two people interacted with him and began demanding money. The two began beating the youth after he resisted, and many onlookers watched as it happened. They threatened him, claiming to be local goons, when the LT journalists tried to stop them. The attackers took the youth’s money and made off in a auto. The reporter wrote down the auto number and gave it to the traffic cop on duty at variety Square.
“In a busy area like Sitabuldi, the goons were openly attacking and robbing the youth. An eyewitness claimed that “the police appear to be unable to control crime on the streets. Additionally, the youth called the police control room, and Sitabuldi police reached the spot. They described it as a “minor incident” and said the victim declined to lodge a complaint. A senior police officer stated, “We are still reviewing CCTV footage from the location after which action will be taken.”
