The renowned food delivery platform Zomato has implemented a tiny platform fee of Rs 2 on its meal delivery app. As an experiment, this fee is being tested in select markets. It applies to all orders, regardless of value, and is available to all users, including Zomato Gold reward programme members.
This little fee aims to investigate additional revenue streams and improve the user experience. According to a Zomato representative, this cost structure’s long-term deployment would depend on the trial results and customer input. They want to see how successful it is before reducing it further.
This action is in response to Swiggy, Zomato’s primary competitor, which instituted a similar Rs 2 platform fee earlier this year. This fee is viewed as a potential move by Zomato to improve earnings and assure long-term growth.
