In a large-scale operation to ensure road safety during New Year celebrations, Nagpur Traffic Police collected over ₹1.07 crore in fines over December 30 and 31, 2024. The campaign, involving nakabandi (blockades) at 60 key junctions, targeted violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, including 161 cases of drunken driving.
The operation saw heavy enforcement across zones. Sonegaon collected ₹12.35 lakh through 1,407 challans, while Sitabuldi recorded ₹12.44 lakh with 1,336 penalties. MIDC, Sadar, and Cotton Market zones collected ₹7.44 lakh, ₹9.30 lakh, and ₹9.55 lakh, respectively. Lakadganj topped with ₹12.82 lakh through 1,359 challans.
Ajni and Sakkardara zones recorded significant action, with fines of ₹11.77 lakh and ₹10.63 lakh, respectively. Indora reported ₹12.55 lakh in fines, while Kamptee collected ₹8.19 lakh.
Despite the high number of penalties, no major accidents or traffic congestion were reported, highlighting the success of the drive.
DCP Traffic Archit Chandak praised citizens for their cooperation and urged continued adherence to traffic rules to ensure safety on Nagpur’s roads.
