If your land records need correction, July is your final window. Starting August 1, the Maharashtra Land Records Department will completely stop accepting paper applications under Section 155 of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966. All corrections must go online only.
This drastic step follows rampant misuse of Section 155, meant strictly for minor clerical errors. In Nagpur and across Maharashtra, corrupt insiders and outsiders exploited the system to illegally change land ownership, adding names without the rightful owner’s consent. Some victims fought court cases for decades, often forced to pay off land grabbers to reclaim their property.
A senior Nagpur Land Records official said, “Going fully digital ensures every correction is traceable and harder to manipulate.”
While the move is welcome in cities, it has sparked anxiety in rural areas. “I’ve never used a smartphone. Now I’ll have to pay someone and still fear mistakes,” said Mahadeo Wankhede, a farmer from Hingna.
To assist citizens, the department is promoting the MahaBhulekh portal and Setu Kendras, where staff will help file applications online.
After July, offline forms will be rejected without exception. All tehsildars have been ordered to strictly enforce the digital-only rule.
Don’t wait. Fix your records now — or risk getting locked out.
