Central government employees are allowed to take up to 30 days of earned leave each year for personal reasons, including caring for their elderly parents, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Responding to a question on whether there is any leave provision for looking after aged parents, the minister said that under the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, government employees are entitled to 30 days of earned leave, 20 days of half-pay leave, eight casual leave days, and two restricted holidays annually.
These leaves can be used for various personal reasons, including elder care, he added in a written reply.
