Vadodara’s Yastika Bhatia etched her name in cricket history by becoming the first batter to score a century in women’s Test cricket at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground during India’s Test match against England in London.
The wicketkeeper-batter reached her hundred in 145 balls in the second innings and went on to score a magnificent 113 off 158 deliveries. Her innings was studded with 14 boundaries and played a key role for India in the match. With the landmark knock, Yastika became the first woman cricketer to register a Test century at the historic venue.
Her achievement came just a day after Indian pacer Kranti Goud claimed a five-wicket haul in England’s first innings to earn a place on the prestigious Lord’s Honours Board. Yastika’s century ensured that Indian players featured on the board for the second consecutive day, making it a memorable occasion for Indian women’s cricket at the ‘Home of Cricket’.
Congratulating the cricketer on her achievement, the President of the Baroda Cricket Association said, “The historic century scored by Yastika Bhatia at a venue as iconic as Lord’s has made the entire city of Vadodara proud.”
