Dr Mukesh Laddha, renowned joint replacement, sports medicine & arthroscopy surgeon from the city performed 12 total knee replacement surgeries at Rathi Nursing Home (RNH), Dhantoli, Nagpur, using robotic system, a first of its kind in Central India.

Dr Laddha, said, “RNH has become the first institute, not only in Nagpur but in Central India, to have performed robotic assisted total knee replacement surgeries, which is highly advanced and latest technology developed in the USA.” Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated the robotic system at the hospital, Dr Laddha informed.

Robotic system along with surgeon skills, helps in perfect customized fit of knee implants for each patient as per their anatomy, which gives them normal feeling. It’s an amalgamation of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and surgeons mind to achieve perfect results after knee replacement. During surgery it  helps in  saving bone, reduces blood loss, and preserves soft tissues in the knee joint, which helps in less post-operative pain and fast recovery with minimum physiotherapy and hence less hospital stay.

“I am happy that Nagpur has acquired this technology and found a place on a global map in medical advancements. I congratulate Dr Dilip Rathi and Dr Mukesh Laddha for taking this initiative. On the road to India’s progress, it’s pertinent that such technologies do not only restrict to big hospitals in metropolitan cities but should also be accessible by masses in the interiors, and Nagpur can serve large number of patients across central India” said Gadkari while inaugurating the robotic system at RNH.

Dr Laddha has already performed 12 successful robotics-assisted total knee replacement surgeries. These surgeries were done using the NAVIO PFS Robotics surgical system.

Dr. Dilip Rathi, Orthopedic Surgeon and Director RNH added, “RNH has always been at the helm of technology and we aim to develop it as a centre of excellence in orthopedics for patients, by training our staff. With robotics-assisted joint replacement, we are driving this differentiated edge ahead and ensuring that we are at par with the world”
