Dance like no one is watching!

To dance is to let go your worries, not just your worries but the negativity. Dance brings in happiness and a relaxed mind. It indeed is a complete physical activity but it also makes sure that it brings in the mental peace.

In India, every ritual, every event, every programme is incomplete without dance. If it is someone’s wedding, the family will host a sangeet ceremony just so, that the family members would express their happiness at the event. When sangeet is not enough, we Indians tend to introduce the element of dance in all the other functions of the wedding ceremony. Apart from that the school and college gatherings are full of group and solo dances. But, do we know why the International Dance Day is celebrated?

International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI), the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO. The event takes place every year on 29th April, the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), the creator of modern ballet. The day strives to encourage participation and education in dance through events and festivals held on the date all over the world. UNESCO formally recognize ITI to be the creators and organizers of the event.

The global celebration of dance can also be seen on various social media platforms. The hashtags, such as #dancersofinstagram and #internationaldanceday are full of people sharing their love for dance through their pictures and videos.

People often feel that International Dance Day is just meant to be celebrated by the professional dancers. However, we need to understand that everyone who can tap their feet on a certain music are entitled to celebrate this awesome day.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Try dancing on the song that you have always longed to.
  2. Plug in the headphones and dance as if no one is watching.
  3. Tap your feet at the most famous songs of today.

And why are we telling you to do this? Because in the burden of the everyday work, we often feel a little lost. Today is the day when you can take time especially to dance. It is indeed a day to celebrate and dance.

From team TLN, keep dancing! That is what will make you happy.
