NMC vet performs complicated surgery

In a shocking and complicated incident, Veterinary doctors of Animal Shelter Centre of NMC at Bhandewadi found 35 kg plastic from a cow’s stomach after operation.  The cow which was seven month pregnant was sick and had stopped eating. Her stomach had bloated. When the doctor operated upon her, 35 kg of plastic bags, metal nut and bolts, pieces of footwear, bundle of nylon thread and other garbage were removed from the stomach of the cow. The surgery was quite complex and complicated.

Still Dr Mayur Kate did his best to relieve the suffering of the cow. The ailing bovine had become quite weak as plastic bags had accumulated in her stomach. It was referred to them by the cow owner Maunde. The animal whose body had bloated up had stopped eating since long time. It used to be normal after administration of drugs and injections but would soon fall sick.

At last the doctor decided to go for surgery. Since the cow was pregnant, operating upon her was a serious task. Still the cow owner was ready for surgery. When Dr Kate started operating the animal, he continued to pull out plastic bags, nails, nut-bolts and other shocking things.

Though the cow is now fine, it is still weak. It cannot stand on its own. It is being supplied with the necessary medicine and feed.

Noted, that usually the plastic bags are thrown along with garbage. Since they have some food left in them, they attract animals like cows, goats, bulls which eat them and then fall ill.

Recently a bull was brought to Gorakshan Sabha. When operated upon, vets pulled out 50 kg plastic bags from its stomach.
