Banned plastic materials in market, at a glance

The Maharashtra government has banned the use and manufacturing of plastic in June 2018. There are several types of plastic which are illegal and govt has banned the use of the same. However, there are certain types of plastics which have got the legal tag. The thickness and the recyclable rate of the material define the category of plastic which are still circulated and is not banned.

As per the rules, these plastic that is allowed to be circulated in the market should have a thickness of more than 50 microns, also the plastic material used in in the factories should have a 20% recyclable rate.

The product like virgin plastic which is mainly used in milk industry is allowed to use as it has the required micron thickness. Such plastics also have a manufacturing date printed with a buyback price. Along with virgin plastic bags, packaging material, thermocol, and PET/ PETE bottles having liquid holding a capacity of 200 ml or more are allowed to be used by the citizens.

The offenders are charged with a heavy fine and till date many of the private vendors have been booked for violating the rules.
