District administration fixes ambulance fares in Nagpur to prevent overcharging

As we know that the nation is undergoing through a nationwide lockdown to contain the coronavirus, nowadays the demand for ambulance service is increasing. However, the district administration received complaints that some service providers were charging more than the regular rates. To prevent this practise, the district administration has fixed rates for ambulance service.

District Collector stated that the ambulance charges were fixed with approval of Regional Transport Authority, as per the provisions of Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act. As per the rates fixed by the district administration, Maruti Van ambulance will be available for Rs 500/- for a distance up to 25 kms in Nagpur city.

The charges for other vehicles converted into ambulance for a distance up to 25 kms in Nagpur city will be as follows: Tata Sumo – Rs 550/-, Tata Winger – Rs 600/-, Tempo travel -Rs 700/-. In case of air-conditioned ambulance, the charges will increase by an additional 10 per cent. Outside the limits of Nagpur city, the additional charges (over the charges mentioned above) will be as follows: Maruti Van –Rs 10/- per km, Tata Sumo – Rs 10/- per km,Tata Winger – Rs 12/- per km, Tempo travel -Rs 14/- per km. Additional 10 per cent charges will be applicable if the ambulance is air-conditioned. Collector also directed that service providers charging more than the prescribed rates will face action under the Disaster Management Act.
