VHA suggests need of 2500 oxygen concentrators to rotary

More than 110 private hospitals of Vidarbha with total bed strength of more than 10000 spread across Vidarbha had joined hands to form Vidarbha Hospitals Association.

Recently they replied to a technical query by Rotary Club regarding an estimate of essential equipment and disposables to aid the health workers in fighting this pandemic.

They have suggested that when Piped Oxygen facility in all beds is lacking in all Government run hospitals of Nagpur, donors can provide individual Oxygen concentrators to each bed and disposables Oxygen masks can be used for patients.

For 3500 beds; VHA has stated that Certified PPE Kits (complete set) of 14000 per day totalling to 420000 per month will be required for 6 hourly shift. A person cannot be asked to work for 12 hours without drinking or eating anything or even passing bowel and bladder. Hence, they have also suggested adult diapers for needy health care personnel in similar quantity for 6 hourly shifts.

Likewise, if face shields are re-used, then 28000 of them will be required. They have suggested to Rotary that 2500 Oxygen Concentrators in each bed where piped Oxygen Facility is not available may be required while Disposable O2 masks for 3500 beds (1 for each patient) totalling to 70000 per month may be required. Likewise, around 2000 Ventilators (Invasive & Non-invasive) with ETCO2 & Bipap facility as per desired government specifications will be required.

However, they have asked Rotary Club to seek guidance and confirmation from concerned competent government authorities before finalizing any requirements.

Dr.Sameer Paltewar & Dr.Anup Marar- VHA Conveners calculated this approximate quantity of consumption for 3500 COVID 19 beds. Dr. Ashok Arbat- President and Dr. Alok Umre- Secretary have forwarded this note to Rotary Club as per their request with copies marked to Nagpur Divisional Commissioner, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur and IMA Nagpur President.
