With the disruption caused owing to the sudden emergence of Covid-19, the education system has completely transformed from offline to online. Riding on the growth of the EdTech sector, Indian Edtech major Meritnation, a subsidiary of test preparation leader Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL), has recorded an impressive growth in terms of paid users from the city of Nagpur in Maharashtra.
Meritnation has registered an Eight–Fold growth in minutes of Live Classes attended by premium users in recent months. A whopping 6.7X and 3X growth was recorded in Live Class usage by students in Mathematics and Science respectively.
The increase in percentage is calculated by comparing the recent monthly usage of Live Classes by premium users to their usage in the beginning of the lockdown. As per the data, Grade 11 Premium Users who registered a 200% growth in live class usage contributed to a majority of this growth.
Commenting on the impressive growth, Mr NarasimhaJayakumar, CEO, Aakash Edutech Pvt. Ltd. said, “Onlinelearning has become the new normal with the emergence of Covid-19 since March 2020. To seamlessly continue with the studying process, students in large percentages are adopting the virtual learning mode and will continue to do so in the post Covid era as well. The increase in the number of students studying on the Meritnation platform from Nagpur clearly reflects the acceptance of our teaching, faculty and curriculum. We will continue to customize our courses according to the requirements of the students in the near future in order to enable them to study from the comfort of their homes.â€
Meritnation is a pioneer in the field of online learning in India having started live classes in 2014. Till date it has over 2.5 crore registered students, 10 million plus app installs and over 47 million tests attempted. Aakash Educational Services Limited(AESL) acquired Meritnation, an Ed-tech company catering to K12 students, in January 2020 by entering into a definitive agreement with Info Edge (India) Limited to acquire ApplectLearning Systems Private Limited.
