The Genome sequencing which is done to check Delta Plus variant in Coronavirus can be done in government Medical College and Hospital Nagpur. Earlier samples have to be sent to NIV at Pune or other laboratories for this test.
Every month around 15-20 samples were sent to NIV lab at Pune from Mayo and GMC respectively. But the reports are being delayed as samples are coming in from all over the place.
In this regards a proposal has been sent for ‘genome sequencing’ to the government. The proposal is also likely to get approval soon.
Recently Guardian Minister Nitin Raut gave a cheque of Rs 2 crore to District Collector Vimala R for COVID-related preparation after which a green flag was given by the administration. The process of purchasing equipment has begun. The new device will carry over 8,000 tests in a single day.
