CM releases new logo of Pench Tiger Reserve

Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister, released a new logo of Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) during inaugural function organised to mark beginning of wildlife Week in Mumbai on Friday.

PTR is one of the prominent tiger reserves in the country and recently it got CA/TS recognition from Global Tiger Forum. The management decided to promote the image of this tiger reserve on international level and hence held State-level open competition for choosing the new logo. As many as 236 competitors participated in it and the judges finally selected the logo prepared by Gajanan Ghongde from Akola, said Dr Ravikiran Gowekar, Field Director, PTR.

The first prize carries Rs 11,000 while four others – Pravin Katre, Amol Athwale, Ashwini Jadhav and Shardul Khapekar – would get consolation prizes. Gowekar pointed out that the logo artistically designed introduction of PTR in a simple way to catch attention of the viewer. The winner used black stripes of a tiger without using any font in Pench word and depicted importance of conservation.

Aaditya Thackeray, Environment Minister, Venugopal Reddy, Principal Secretary, Forests, G Saiprakash, PCCF and Head of forest Force, and Sunil Limaye, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), were among those who were seated on the dias.

It may be mentioned here that Uddhav Thackeray had participated in the programme as the guest of honour for inauguration of this 25th tiger reserve of the country at the hands of Suresh Prabhu, the then Minister for Environemt & Forests, in 1999.
