Dayashankar Tiwari, Mayor, gave away cheques worth Rs 23.75 lakh to 25 persons with disability at the rate of Rs 95,000/- each under financial help scheme for starting units/business to make them financially self-reliant and achieve their empowerment. The programme that was held here on Friday was symbolic.
Avinash Thakre, Ruling Party Leader, Divya Durde, Chairperson, Women & Child Welfare Committee, Sunil Agrawal, Senior Corporator, Dinkar Umredkar, Social Welfare Officer, and others were present.
Under the scheme, the persons with disability from the city will be given Rs 95,000/- individually or in group, which they have to deposit it in the bank. Tiwari congratulated them and extended best wishes for starting some business. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has made budgetary provision of Rs 7.50 crore for getting momentum to welfare programmes, he said adding that these beneficiaries should start activities for self-employment in order to earn livelihood.
He said, NMC is giving attention to provide benefits to persons with disability under various schemes. It is giving e-rickshaw, motorised tricycle etc to such persons by giving grants of Rs 50,000/- under Prime Minister Awas Yojna.
