Set back to tourism sector during Covid-19

*MTDC suffered heavy losses in last two years

Tourism sector received a big set back during the last two years owing to coronavirus pandemic. Tourism activities had come to a standstill out of fear among the people about increasing cases of corona and restrictions imposed by the government. This resulted in suffering heavy losses.

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) suffered huge losses during this period in view of people avoiding going to different destinations and mixing with others. Those who had booked suites at various resorts preferred to cancel reservations. Various restrictions put up by the government also proved against thinking to go to various places of tourism all over Maharashtra.

Now, tourism has once again coming on the track as the number of corona cases has gone down considerably and due to relaxation in the restrictions.

While talking to The Live Nagpur, Kshipra Borah, Senior Regional Manager, MTDC, Nagpur, said on Thursday that the booking of resorts at Chikhaldara, Moharli-Tadoba, Bodhalkasa in Gondia and Sillari in Pench were full as tourism activities started. The trend will increase during summer months, when people want to enjoy at the natural places, she added. There was also no flow of funds during covid-19 period hence we concentrated only on planning, operation and maintenance of resorts. MTDC has also given resorts on lease basis at Khekra nullah, Sakoli, Paoni, Pipariyapeth, Khindsi and Ramtek. Now, the situation has started changing and tourism has picked up with tourists giving response, Borah pointed out.
