Since the beginning of April, the summer has begun to heat up. Heatstroke has claimed the lives of three persons in Nagpur. A heat wave has been predicted by the meteorological department. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s health department has devised a heat action plan with this in mind. As a result, the city gardens have been told to keep their doors open all day. The creation of chilly chambers in municipal hospitals has been ordered. Charitable organisations are advised to supply drinking water to people in need in various regions of the city.
For the past two years, people had not gone out of their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic during summer. The workers were not at work as the industries were closed. So there was no need for a heat action plan. This year,
However, the temperature has gone beyond 40 degree Celsius since the beginning of April. Citizens are suffering due to heat. The number of heatstroke patients is increasing.
Risk of heatstroke There is a risk of dying from heat stroke in summer days. When the temperature is above 40 degree Celsius, the risk of heat stroke is higher. Considering this, the municipal administration has decided to take measures by coordinating with the health department, meteorological department and various departments of the corporation. It has been directed to form a team at the zonal level. The isolation clinic has been
instructed to provide immediate treatment to patients suffering from gastroenteritis and diarrhea, as well as to provide medicines at the health centre.
Gardens to remain throughout the day The city parks have been instructed to remain open throughout the day, said additional health officer Dr Vijay Joshi. However, considering the experience of the past, this decision needs to be strictly implemented. Despite the rising mercury, the drinking water centres have not become functional. Immediate implementation of the heat action plan is expected if the temperature rises by five degrees above the actual normal temperature.
