Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate Sudhakar Adabale is sure to come victorious, with a huge lead he has secured over his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Nago Ganar. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) workers have already started celebrations, even before the completion of the counting of votes.
The counting of votes for election Member of the Legislative Council as Teachers’ representative from Nagpur constituency began here on Thursday morning. Poling was held on January 30. In the first round of counting itself, Adabale had recurred more than half of the first preference votes. With the lead, Adabale is almost sure to come victorious during the counting of votes of first preference votes.
Out of the 28,000 votes counted in the first round Adabale polled 14,069 votes, as against 6,366 in favour of Ganar. In all 22 candidates were in the fray for the only seat from Nagpur constituency. Ganar, who was seeking elections for the third consecutive term is far behind in the race.
Out of 34,360 ballot papers, counting of 28,000 was completed for the first preference votes, around 4.30 pm. Out of the 28,000 ballot papers 1,099 were rendered invalid. Adabale secured 14,069 first preference votes out of the 26,901 valid votes, which is more than 50 per cent.
Elections for five seats of graduates and teachers representatives were held on January 30 and counting is being held on February 2. The first result went in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Dnyaneshwar Mhatre of BJP was declared elected from the Konkan teacher’s constituency. He defeated Balaram Patil of PWP. Results of Nashik and Amravati graduates constituencies and Aurangabad and Nagpur teacher’s constituencies are yet to be declared.
The result of the Nagpur constituency is almost clear, with only the final figures of votes and victory margin remaining to be counted.
