About 2200 Naib-Tahasildar and 600 Tahasildars in Maharashtra have proceeded on indefinite strike from Monday, in support of their demand of grade-pay revision.
The post of Naib-Tahasildar is a Class-II post but gets lesser pay compared to what is paid to officers of the same grade in other departments.
The post of Naib-Tahasildar was raised from Class-III to Class-II on October 13, 1998. They are working as Class-II officers for the last 25 years, but their pay was not revised. With the revision of their pay scales, the government will have to shoulder an additional expenditure of Rs 2.64 crore every year.
The farmers and the students will be the worst affected if the strike continues for a longer period.
