With temperatures in the city peaking at a scorching 44°C, students appearing for exams under Nagpur University are facing harsh conditions inside examination halls, raising serious concerns over their health and performance.
Several students reported that non-functional fans and the absence of coolers made the exam environment “unbearable,” particularly during afternoon sessions. Despite reports of allocated funds for renting cooling equipment, a visit to major exam centers on Tuesday revealed no coolers in use.
“We’re already stressed about the exams, and now we have to deal with this heat. It feels like writing papers under direct sunlight,” said a visibly exhausted student.
Barely Functional Facilities:
At many centers, students found themselves relying on fans that offered no real respite. Some fans rotated slowly, circulating hot air rather than cooling the room. In several cases, windows remained shut, further trapping heat and making conditions suffocating.
“The fan is moving, but there’s no breeze. It’s just spinning uselessly,” a student added.
In some examination halls, only two fans served an entire room full of candidates, forcing many to endure extreme discomfort during crucial examination hours.
As the heatwave tightens its grip over Vidarbha, students and parents are urging Nagpur University authorities to act swiftly and improve basic amenities. Demands include ensuring adequate ventilation, functional fans, and installation of temporary coolers at all examination centers.
The situation, if unaddressed, could not only affect students’ academic performance but also pose serious health risks, especially to those with underlying conditions or appearing for exams in peak afternoon hours.
