The South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will organise the prestigious 33rd Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Memorial Music Festival from July 29 to 31, 2026 in memory of the legendary singer and actor Dr Vasantrao Deshpande.
The three-day festival will be held every evening from 6.30 pm onwards at the Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Memorial Hall, Civil Lines, Nagpur.
Over the years, the festival has emerged as an important platform for promoting Indian classical music and the rich tradition of musical theatre. The South Central Zone Cultural Centre has consistently introduced innovative initiatives to elevate the event to national and international prominence.
The participation of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, along with emerging young talent, has significantly enhanced the stature of the festival over the years. The event has provided music and art enthusiasts from Nagpur and across the country an opportunity to experience a wide range of performances, including classical vocal music, instrumental recitals, musical theatre productions and Indian classical dance presented by renowned artists from India and abroad.
Since its inception, the Centre has made continuous efforts to involve local artists, music organisations and admirers associated with Dr Vasantrao Deshpande, thereby strengthening the festival’s connection with the city’s cultural community. Music lovers, listeners, teachers, critics, media representatives and cultural organisations from Nagpur have played a significant role in the festival’s successful journey. The enthusiastic participation of audiences over the years has contributed immensely to the growth and prestige of the event, which enters its 33rd edition this year.
Entry passes for the 33rd Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Memorial Music Festival will be available at the office of the South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur, from July 21, 2026, between 11 am and 5 pm.
The pass will remain valid for all three days of the festival. Passes have been priced at Rs 500 and Rs 300 per person for the entire event. They will also be available at the venue during the festival days, subject to availability. The three-day event will feature performances in classical vocal music, instrumental music and musical theatre. As in previous years, several nationally and internationally renowned artists are expected to participate. The detailed programme schedule and list of participating artists will be announced shortly.
SCZCC Director Astha Karlekar has appealed to music enthusiasts, listeners and art lovers to attend the festival in large numbers and contribute to the success of this prestigious cultural event.
