A young man lost his life in a tragic accident at Nagpur Railway Station early on Tuesday after he climbed onto a stationary freight train and came into contact with an overhead high-voltage power line.
Railway Staff Tried to Prevent the Mishap
The incident occurred around 5.30 am in the railway yard area. According to railway officials, the man climbed onto a parked freight train and moved towards the overhead electric equipment (OHE) line carrying high-voltage current.
Officials and railway staff on duty quickly noticed the situation and immediately switched off the power supply to the overhead line above the train to avert a possible accident. They also attempted to convince the man to come down safely from the wagon.
Contact With Live Wire Proves Fatal
Before rescue efforts could succeed, the man reportedly jumped from the first freight train onto another goods train standing on a neighbouring track.
However, the overhead electric line on the adjacent track was still energised. The man came into contact with the live high-voltage wire and suffered a severe electric shock. He sustained critical burn injuries and died at the spot.
Investigation Underway
The incident caused panic among railway personnel and passengers in the vicinity. Teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the scene, recovered the body and began an investigation. The identity of the deceased had not been established at the time of filing the report. Authorities are trying to ascertain the reasons behind the man’s actions and the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. Further investigation is in progress.
