Nagpur and several parts of Vidarbha are expected to witness a temporary pause in monsoon activity over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating that widespread rainfall is unlikely before July 18.
After an active spell that brought consistent showers across the region for more than a week, rainfall activity has weakened considerably. The break in the monsoon is expected to result in a gradual rise in temperatures and humidity levels, making weather conditions warmer and more uncomfortable.
According to the forecast, only isolated pockets may receive light rain or thundershowers over the next few days, while most areas are likely to remain largely dry. Although skies are expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy, the lack of significant rainfall coupled with moisture in the atmosphere could lead to sultry conditions, especially during the daytime.
Day temperatures in Nagpur and neighbouring districts are likely to increase by 2°C to 4°C, with maximum temperatures expected to hover between 32°C and 34°C. This marks a noticeable rise from the cooler temperatures recorded during the recent spell of active monsoon conditions.
Weather experts have attributed the reduction in rainfall to a temporary weakening of monsoon systems influencing central India. However, conditions are expected to become favourable once again from July 18 onwards, with a fresh round of monsoon showers likely to return to Nagpur and other parts of Vidarbha.
Meteorologists said such intermittent breaks are a regular feature of the southwest monsoon and are generally followed by renewed rainfall activity. The current dry spell is expected to be short, with monsoon conditions likely to regain strength later this week.
