The 10th leading cause of morbidity in India- Brain Tumor is increasing the number of deaths every year. Although, the numbers of deaths from Brain Tumor in India is increasing, the awareness for the disease remains low. World Brain Tumour Day is observed annually on 8 June. The day is marked to raise awareness and educate people about brain tumours.

Dr. Rahul Zamad said that, On World Brain Tumor Day, we should all come together to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals and families affected by brain tumors. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of brain tumors, such as persistent headaches, seizures, cognitive changes, and balance problems, can lead to timely intervention and improved outcomes. Therefore, raising awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals is crucial. Dr. Rahul Zamad,Consultant furher added,“It is estimated that people have around 1% chance of developing brain tumours in their lifetime. The well-established risk factors for developing brain tumour are exposure to ionizing radiation and a family history of brain cancer. After the surgery these patients require rehabilitation which is an important part of the overall treatment”,Mostly, the symptoms and signs of a brain tumour depend on the size and location of the tumour in the body. Some tumours directly affect the brain tissue while some cause pressure on the surrounding brain.
Below are a few cases of many where we at Wockhardt Hospital want to highlight importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention in patients with brain tumor for good recovery and smooth post operative period.
A 32 year old female from Nagpur had severe pain over left side of face and abnormal eye movements with a large left tumor in the back of the brain of size 6X7 cm was treated with craniotomy and near total excision of the tumor and after the surgery pain over her face disappeared.
Another 65 year old male from Jabalpur patient presented with history of imbalance while walking. MRI showed cerebellar meningioma. The tumor was completely excised and he did well after the surgery and was mobilized to walk independently at the time of discharge.
A 70-year-old with headaches and subtle weakness over left side of the body for last 2 weeks. MRI showed large tumor on one side of the brain for which craniotomy was done. We used USG probe to trace the exact location of the tumor and it was near completely excised preserving the important vessels.
58-year-old male with headache and drooping of right eye lid and double vision since last 2 days. MRI showed heterogeneously enhancing pituitary tumor with haemorrhage. The sellar mass was completely excised via a trans nasal transsphenoidal Endoscopic approach.
These and many other patients of brain tumor did well in the post op period.
