A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped and robbed at knifepoint by two men while she was with her cousin in Pune’s Shirur tehsil, Maharashtra, police said on Monday.
According to officials, the accused forced the woman and her cousin to engage in an obscene act and filmed it before sexually assaulting her. The incident reportedly took place on Saturday when the two were sitting at a secluded spot and were caught off guard by the perpetrators, both in their late twenties.
Following the traumatic ordeal, the woman managed to call the police helpline 112 and report the crime. Acting swiftly, law enforcement launched a manhunt and arrested both suspects within hours based on the survivor’s description.
“Responding to the call, our crime team immediately registered an offence. Without wasting any time, our team gathered descriptions of the accused and launched a search operation. Using human intelligence, both suspects were apprehended within a few hours,” said Senior Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode.
The accused also robbed the woman of her gold nose ring and pendant before fleeing. Police later recovered the stolen jewellery, and both suspects have been remanded to custody until March 7.
