A betting racket operating during the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore was busted by the Crime Branch Unit 4 of Nagpur Police on April 10, Thursday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team conducted a raid near the parking area in front of Aashirwad Bar under Sakkardara Police Station limits, where illegal betting activities were underway. During the operation conducted between 8:15 pm and 10:30 pm, officers apprehended a suspect identified as Avinash Vasudev Matkure (45), a resident of Kamgar Nagar, Nandanvan, Nagpur.
He was found accepting bets via mobile phone from punters on the ongoing IPL match. During interrogation, Matkure revealed that he was working in coordination with an accomplice named Rahul Chourasia, a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who supplied online betting information.
Police seized two mobile phones, Rs 1,100 in cash, and other materials worth around Rs 1.21 lakh from the scene. A case was registered under the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act Section 12(a) at Sakkardara Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Nisar Tamboli, Additional CP (Crime) Sanjay Patil, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil, and the team led by PI Kamalakar Gaddime and PSI Vaibhav Barange.
