Nagpur: With Ganesh Chaturthi around the corner, Vastu Shastra experts have shared important guidelines for placing Lord Ganesha’s idol at the main entrance of homes. Known as the remover of obstacles, Lord Ganesha is believed to safeguard the house from negative energies and evil eyes when placed correctly.
Those planning to move into a new home or install an idol during the festival are advised to follow key Vastu rules, as incorrect placement may lead to negative effects.
Here are eight common mistakes to avoid:
- Wrong Direction: Place the idol in the North, East, or North-East (Ishan) direction. Avoid the South and West directions; if unavoidable, consult a Vastu expert.
- Back of the Idol: Ensure the back of the idol faces outward, as it is believed poverty resides there. Two idols should be positioned with their backs facing each other.
- Damaged Idols: Never install a broken or chipped idol, as it is considered inauspicious.
- Incorrect Posture: A sitting idol signifies stability and peace. Avoid standing idols, which may disrupt energy, and lying idols, which are meant for bedrooms.
- Near Dirty Spots: Do not place the idol near toilets, dustbins, or unclean areas, as this attracts negativity.
- On a Damaged Wall: Avoid placing idols on cracked or rough walls. If space is limited, position the idol above the door frame instead.
- Multiple Idols: Only one idol should be at the entrance. If using two, place them on either side of the door with their backs facing each other.
- Trunk Direction: An idol with the trunk bent to the left is ideal for entrances, bringing happiness and prosperity. Idols with the trunk bent to the right require special rituals and are best suited for indoor temples.
Following these Vastu principles is believed to invite positive energy, prosperity, and divine blessings. Experts recommend consulting a professional before installation for the best results.
