In a festive gesture for central government employees, the Modi administration has approved a productivity-linked “Ad-hoc Bonus” for the year 2024-25. The Finance Ministry, in an order issued on Monday, stated that Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees will receive a bonus equivalent to 30 days’ salary, fixed at Rs 6,908.
Eligibility Criteria
The bonus will be extended to all employees in service as of March 31, 2025, who have completed at least six months of continuous service. Employees who have worked for less than a full year will receive the bonus on a pro-rata basis corresponding to the months served.
According to the office memorandum, “The sanction of the President is conveyed to grant Non-Productivity Linked Bonus (Ad-hoc Bonus) equivalent to 30 days’ emoluments for the accounting year 2024-25 to all Central Government employees in Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees who are not covered under any Productivity Linked Bonus Scheme.”
Who Will Benefit?
The bonus also covers eligible personnel in central paramilitary forces, the armed forces, and employees in Union Territories drawing central government pay without receiving any other bonus or ex-gratia.
Ad-hoc employees are eligible as long as their service has been continuous, and casual labourers who have worked a minimum number of days over the last three years will also receive the bonus. For such casual workers, the bonus amount has been fixed at Rs 1,184.
Calculation Details
The bonus is calculated based on a maximum monthly salary of Rs 7,000. For example, a 30-day bonus on this salary is computed as:
7,000 × 30 ÷ 30.4 = Rs 6,907.89 (rounded to Rs 6,908).
Key Highlights
- Only employees in service on March 31, 2025, are eligible.
- Retired, resigned, or deceased employees are eligible only if they have completed at least six months of regular service.
- Employees on deputation will receive the bonus from their current organization.
- The bonus amount will be rounded to the nearest rupee.
This announcement is expected to benefit millions of central government staff and security personnel, providing a timely pre-festival financial boost and relief.
