In a major update for Class 12 students across Maharashtra, the MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) will now be conducted twice a year, similar to the JEE Main. The move aims to give aspirants an additional opportunity to improve their scores and flexibility in appearing for the exam.
The MHT-CET is a state-level entrance examination for admission to professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, and architecture. Traditionally conducted in April, the exam has separate sessions for Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) and Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB) groups.
Starting from the 2026–27 admission cycle, there will be two sessions per subject group, and candidates can choose to appear for either one or both. If a student takes both attempts, the best score will be considered for admission—mirroring the JEE Main system.
According to Dilip Sardesai, Commissioner of the Maharashtra CET Cell, both sessions of the MHT-CET for 2026–27 admissions will be conducted between March and May 2026. From the 2027–28 academic year, however, the two attempts will be spaced farther apart—similar to JEE Main, which holds its sessions in January and April.
“The new system allows students flexibility and a second chance if they miss or underperform in the first exam,” said a CET Cell official. “Earlier, missing the single annual exam meant losing the opportunity altogether.”
The registration process will now begin earlier to accommodate the two sessions. Additionally, the MBA/MMS CET—which determines admission to postgraduate management programs—will also adopt the two-attempt format, moving its first session earlier than the usual April schedule.
