With thousands of passengers affected by IndiGo’s mass flight cancellations, Indian Railways has stepped in by adding 116 extra coaches to 37 major trains, covering 114 additional trips across the country.
Key Highlights:
- Southern Railway added the most coaches, strengthening 18 trains with extra Chair Car and Sleeper coaches from December 6.
- Northern Railway upgraded 8 trains with additional 3AC and Chair Car coaches to handle heavy demand.
- Western Railway attached 3AC and 2AC coaches to 4 busy trains, mainly to support high travel from western states to Delhi.
- East Central Railway added 2AC coaches to the Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi train (12309) for five trips between December 6–10.
- East Coast Railway added 2AC coaches to Bhubaneswar–New Delhi trains for five trips.
- Eastern Railway added Sleeper coaches to three trains for six trips on December 7 and 8.
- Northeast Frontier Railway increased capacity by adding 3AC and Sleeper coaches to two trains for eight trips between December 6–13.
Special Trains to Handle Rush:
- Gorakhpur–Anand Vihar Special will run four trips from Dec 7–9.
- New Delhi–Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special will run on Dec 6.
- New Delhi–Mumbai Central Superfast Special will run on Dec 6 and 7.
- Hazrat Nizamuddin–Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Special will run a one-way trip on Dec 6.
