The session was aimed to sensitise students and faculty members of the school on the critical aspects of digital banking safety.
HDFC Bank, India’s leading private sector Bank as a part of a digital banking awareness drive, hosted a secure banking workshop in Baba Nanak, Sindhi Hindi High School, Mangalwari, Nagpur. The objective of this session was to senitise the students and faculty members of the school with essential knowledge on safe digital banking practices.
Through this interactive session, over 350 students and faculty members gained valuable insights on safe digital banking practices.
During the session the Bank staff covered an array of pertinent topics, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of digital security:
1. IFAW’s Background: Attendees were introduced to the mission/role of International Fraud Awareness Week in advocating digital awareness.
2. Cyber Fraud Awareness: Detailed discussions elucidated common cyber threats like Vishing, Phishing, Smishing, remote device access, SIM swap, and UPI frauds. Real-life examples were used to deepen comprehension.
3. Secure Netbanking and Shopping Tips: The sessions highlighted best practices for secure online transactions, spotlighting the significance of Vigil Aunty and offering invaluable tips for safe online shopping.
4. Preventive Measures: Attendees were guided not to divulge sensitive information such as OTPs, CVVs, Debit/Credit card PINs, and UPI pins.
Commenting on this Mr. Manish Agrawal, Senior Executive Vice President – Credit Intelligence and Control – HDFC Bank said, “Today we are transacting more via the digital medium. Hence it is important to create awareness about various modus operandi used by fraudsters and the secure banking practices that one needs to follow so that we do not become victims of online frauds. Citizens mustn’t share confidential banking data with anyone or click on unverified links.”
The secure banking workshops are aimed at educating schools, colleges, customers, law enforcement agencies, senior citizens, Self-Help Groups, educational institutions, vendors, partners and employees, among others.
The Bank encourages customers to be cautious and adopt safe banking habits while transacting digitally and avoid sharing their confidential banking information with anyone. In the event of falling prey to online fraud the victim should immediately report the unauthorised transactions to the bank in order to get the payment channel blocked, i.e., cards/UPI/net banking to safeguard against future losses. Customers should also file a complaint by calling 1930, a helpline number started by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as well as submit a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal https://www.cybercrime.gov.in. Customers are also advised to report fraudulent/suspicious calls, messages on the Chakshu portal at https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/ or via the Sanchar Saathi mobile app.
