Political tension gripped Prabhag 13 during the ongoing Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections after candidate Kisan Gawande was allegedly locked inside his residence by his own supporters in an attempt to prevent him from withdrawing his nomination.
Sources said the party leadership had directed Gawande to withdraw from the NMC election race, a move that reportedly angered his followers in the ward. Upset over the decision, the supporters allegedly confined the candidate inside his house, leading to a brief spell of chaos in the area.
The situation eased after Gawande intervened and held discussions with his supporters, urging them to remain calm. Following this, the lock was removed and normalcy was restored in the locality.
Later in the day, Kisan Gawande officially withdrew his nomination, adhering to the party’s instructions. No formal complaint has been lodged in connection with the incident.
The episode underscores the high political stakes and internal pressure surrounding candidate withdrawals in the NMC elections, particularly in sensitive wards like Prabhag 13.
