As New Year celebrations ushered in 2026 with late-night parties and packed streets across major cities, scenes from Bengaluru and Gurugram have ignited a heated discussion on social media over public conduct and safety during festivities.

This is not the culture of Bengaluru. Do not ruin the image of Namma Bengaluru by turning our roads into places of chaos in the name of parties and New Year celebrations. Seeing youths… pic.twitter.com/OIS5XkgP0S
While thousands stepped out to welcome the New Year, several videos that surfaced online showed chaotic moments involving heavily intoxicated youths. The clips quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions. Some users defended individual freedom and personal choices, while others expressed concern over public behaviour, safety, and the ethics of recording and circulating such moments.
Bengaluru Footage Raises Safety and Privacy Concerns
Many of the viral videos are reportedly from Bengaluru’s popular nightlife hubs. One widely shared clip shows police officers escorting a visibly intoxicated woman through a crowded street. She appears unsteady on her feet, with officers and bystanders assisting her as onlookers record the incident. The visuals have disturbed several viewers, who questioned the lack of privacy and the circumstances leading to such vulnerability.

Another video from the city features multiple short clips of young women who appear heavily intoxicated, leaning on friends or strangers for support. In some instances, bystanders are seen trying to protect them from the crowd or help adjust their clothing. These scenes have fuelled concerns about personal safety, public responsibility, and the growing tendency to film and share private moments online.
The videos, reportedly shot in areas such as Koramangala, show packed streets with little space to move. Although police presence is visible, the sheer size of the crowd appears to have made crowd management challenging.
Social media reactions have been sharply divided. While many users criticised reckless partying and the decision to record such moments, others pointed to changing social norms. Commenting on the videos, one user remarked, “It’s common in Koramangala. Earlier, people were modest enough not to make such videos. But Gen Z seems to upload everything on the internet these days.”
The viral clips have once again brought the spotlight on public behaviour, safety, and digital responsibility during large-scale celebrations.
