In a move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, Indian Railways has decided to prepare the first reservation chart in advance for all trains, with the revised system coming into effect from December 30. The initiative is expected to provide passengers with early clarity on their reservation status and reduce last-minute anxiety, particularly for long-distance travellers from remote areas.
Under the new arrangement, the first reservation chart for trains departing between 5.01 am and 2 pm will be prepared by 8 pm on the previous night. For trains scheduled to depart between 2.01 pm and 11.59 pm, the first reservation chart will be prepared at least 10 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.
Similarly, for trains leaving between 12 midnight and 5 am, the first reservation chart will also be prepared a minimum of 10 hours in advance.
With the revised timelines, passengers will be able to obtain early confirmation of their reservation status, enabling better travel planning and helping them avoid last-minute inconvenience.
Railway authorities said that in the future, the introduction of any new trains or changes in chart preparation timings will be implemented strictly in accordance with Railway Board instructions. All related operational activities, including chart printing, coach changes if required, and finalisation of train composition, will also be carried out as per the revised charting schedule.
