Shourya Ambone bagged the title of the Nagpur District Rapid Selection Chess Championship organised by Chess Association Nagpur in association with G.H. Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation, Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation G.H.Raisoni College, Rian Tower, Mangalwari, Nagpur held on 1st March 2026. Earlier, In the morning session, Vishwaditya Awasthi with a score of 7 ½ points won the Nagpur District Blitz Chess Championship at the same venue. The Cash Prizes worth Rs. 10000/- sponsored by G.H.Raisoni Sports and Welfare Foundation were at stake for each group. In the Rapid Selection Event, Shourya on his way to title scored 7 ½ points out of 8. Pratham Gupta scored 7 points to get the second position in Rapid event. Yuval Sunil Mohurle also scored 7 points but was placed 3rd in merit list based on tie break scores. In the Blitz Selection Chess Championship, Vishwaditya with a score of 7½ points out of 8 finished a clear first. Sharma Sai with 7 points finished second. Two players namely Sahajveersingh Maras and Shourya Ambone scored 6 ½ points and were placed 3rd and 4th respectively based on their tie break scores. The prizes were distributed at the hands of Shri Shekhar Suryawanshi, Superintendent Central GST and Ace Athlete, Coach and Organiser. Shri Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary Chess Association Nagpur and FA Shiva Iyer, Chief Arbiter were seated on the dias. Shri S.S. Soman conducted the proceedings and proposed the vote of thanks. Prizes were sponsored by G.H. Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation. Top finishers in Rapid and Blitz group were awarded cash prizes alongwith trophies. Medals were given to top finishers in Under-19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9 and 7 and Veteran age categories. Medals were also distributed to Specially Able participants. The event was organised under the patronage of G.H.Raisoni Sports and Welfare Foundation under the able guidance of Shri Sunil Raisoni, Chairman, Raisoni Group, Dr. Mrinal Naik, Director(Projects) and Shri Amit Gandhare, Director (Public Relations) Raisoni Group. FA Shiva Iyer was the Chief Arbiter who was assisted by FA Amit Tembhurne, SNA Prayas Ambade, SNA Shishir Indurkar, SNA Shrikant Bagde and Akhil Rambhad.
