After years of uncertainty following the demolition of Krazy Castle Aqua Park at Ambazari for the Metro Rail corridor, MahaMetro is now planning to transform the site into an international-standard amusement/theme park along with a commercial complex under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
MahaMetro has invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the project, which will be developed on over 5.3 acres near Ambazari Lake. The site is strategically located next to Dharampeth College Metro Station, ensuring seamless connectivity through the Metro network.
The proposed development will have two main components — a nearly 5-acre theme park and a smaller commercial parcel of around 1,752 sqm, intended for revenue-generating facilities.
A key highlight of the project is its Global Village-style concept, elements of which are already visible at the site. MahaMetro had earlier installed facades inspired by iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Disney Castle, and parts of Dubai’s skyline. These structures will be handed over to the selected developer, who will upgrade and integrate them into a fully operational theme park.
As per the EOI, the park is expected to cater to visitors of all age groups, featuring attractions like amusement rides, indoor gaming zones, bowling alleys, entertainment spaces, food courts, exhibition centres, and even a revolving restaurant.
The commercial section is likely to include facilities such as banquet halls and retail outlets. The private partner will be responsible for the project’s design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance.
The concession period is expected to run until 2051, during which the developer can generate revenue through ticket sales, events, advertisements, and leasing of commercial spaces. After this period, the entire project will be transferred back to MahaMetro.
Given the presence of the Nag River and proximity to Ambazari Lake, strict environmental safeguards will be required, including ensuring uninterrupted water flow and preventing pollution. The commercial development will also follow green building norms, focusing on energy-efficient and low-carbon infrastructure.
Urban planners believe the project could emerge as a major high-footfall destination, thanks to its Metro connectivity and location within a well-established recreational zone. MahaMetro is likely to position it as a key part of its broader transit-oriented development and non-fare revenue strategy.
